Requirements for high-performance zirconia grinding media

Apr 12, 2022

Abrasion resistance

The quality of wear resistance will be directly related to the performance of the grinding medium during use. The grinding medium cannot produce large wear during use. If the grinding medium wears a lot, it will not only affect the life of the grinding medium itself, but also Contamination of the material being ground, therefore, the wear of the grinding media should be as small as possible.

Density

The higher the density of the grinding medium, the higher the specific gravity. Under the same conditions, the grinding medium with a large specific gravity generates higher kinetic energy, so the shorter the time required for the grinding process, the higher the grinding efficiency.

Strength and hardness

The crushing strength characterizes the maximum impact force that the grinding media can withstand, because the grinding media will have a lot of interaction during use, the higher the crushing strength of the grinding media, the less chance of damage. The hardness of the material to be ground determines the application of the grinding medium. The hardness of the grinding media is usually greater than the hardness of the material being ground, otherwise large losses will occur.

Roundness and size

For spherical grinding media, the better the sphericity, the smaller the roundness deviation, the better, and the better the roundness, the more uniform the particle size distribution of the products obtained by grinding. The smaller the size of the grinding ball, the more contact points between the ball and the ball during the grinding process, and the more opportunities for the material to be ground. Generally speaking, the particle size of the material to be ground is small, and the diameter of the grinding medium should also be reduced.

Smoothness

The grinding ball needs to have a smooth and bright surface, the smoother the media surface, the less wear. The factor that determines whether there is light on the surface of the grinding ball is the smoothness of the spherical surface; the smooth spherical mirror has a good effect, and the rough spherical mirror has a poor effect. The factors affecting the flatness of the spherical surface mainly include the internal structure of the material and the degree of external processing of the spherical surface. The structure includes pores, grain size, liquid phase, etc. External machining of spherical surfaces refers to polishing operations. The spherical surface of the grinding ball just after sintering is matt. After polishing, the spherical surface will show a mirror effect.
