Types of Grinding Media
Grinding media of various shapes and sizes achieve varying grinding results. There are three types of grinding media that can be used in cement plant ball mills.
1. Stainless Steel Balls
Steel balls are one of the most common grinding media in cement ball mills, with diameters ranging from 20mm to 120mm depending on the grinding requirements. In a cement ball mill, 50-100mm steel balls are typically used in the coarse grinding chamber, while 20-50mm steel balls are typically used in the fine grinding chamber.
2. Short Cylinders
Grinding media with a cylinder shape are known as short cylinders. They can be used in ball mill fine grinding chambers in both open and closed circuit grinding systems.
Short cylinders are specified by multiplying the diameter in millimeters by the length in meters. The most common specifications are 15mm 20mm, 18mm 22mm, 20mm 25mm, and 25mm 30mm.
3. Stainless Steel Bars
Steel bars are round steel rods that have been cut to size. Steel bars used in ball mills typically have diameters ranging from 40mm to 90mm. Steel bars should be 50-100 mm shorter in length than the mill chamber.
